Thai Food

Thai food is internationally famous and widely known for being hot and spicy due to being cooked with garlic, chilies, lime juice, lemon grass, ginger, pepper, basil and spice. Thai cuisine is known for its unique spicy, sour, and sweet tastes.  Thai food varies from region to region. For example, sticky rice is more popular in the North and Northeast than steamed rice. Food in the Northeast is hot and sour. By contrast, food in the South is very hot and salty.

Thai food is currently gaining worldwide popularity, especially the exotic Tom Yum Kung, Pad Thai, Kaeng Keowan Kai, and Tom Kha Kai.  Another popular local Thai food is Thai chili paste or Namprik. Made from chili, garlic and other spices, it is rather spicy and is served as a dip along with raw vegetables. There are many kinds of Namprik depending on the region.

Thai Dessert

Thai desserts have been an integral part of Thai cuisine for a long time and the recipes have been passed on from generation to generation. As Thai people are quite articulate, Thai desserts are made in many colors, shapes, and patterns.

At present, Thai desserts can be found in almost all markets, pastry shops, and restaurants. The main ingredients are coconut, flour, sugar, and eggs. They are often served with decorative flowers like jasmine and rose- both known for their aromatic and sweet qualities.

Thai people like to have dessert after a main course. Thai dessert or Khanom Thai is always used in Buddhist festivals or ceremonies such as weddings, and merit making ceremonies. Thai people believe that some Thai desserts are blessed and can bring happiness and prosperity to people.

Thai Fruit

Thailand is a paradise for fruit lovers, especially tropical fruit lovers. There is a large variety of delicious fruits that grow both seasonally and all-year round. A diverse selection of fruits is easily found at numerous fruit shops, supermarkets, street vendors, and markets. Thai fruit is planted in all parts of Thailand, and their diversity and taste are known the world over.  They are also used in making desserts, fruit juices, and other food dishes.  Famous Thai fruit include Durian, Jackfruit, Mango, Mangosteen, Pineapple, Watermelon, Pomelo, Longan, Rambutan, and Coconut.
