Global Summit of Women 2020
Bangkok, Thailand, January 14, 2020 – Thailand has been chosen to host Global Summit of Women 2020 on April 23-25, 2020 at Cantara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Centre in Bangkok under the theme “Women: Revolutionising Economies” with support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), and leading Thai companies who believe in the importance of women’s role on the global stage.
The Global Summit of Women 2020, as a major international gathering of women leaders, helps businesswomen, professionals, executives of public and private organisations, and leaders in civil sectors from around the world to connect with each other and create a network of cooperation and experience sharing in order to generate business opportunities and foster global economies in a sustainable way.
The 2020 edition of the event will be a special one as it will celebrate the summit’s 30-year anniversary, providing a unique opportunity for Thailand to promote its image to the international community, its commitment to supporting women’s role in the business sector, and its belief in women as a key drive in economic and social development at both national and international levels. At the same time, the summit is expected to help boost Thailand’s position as tourist destination and venue for international events.
Ms. Irene Navtividad, Chair of the International Planning Committee for the Global Summit of Women, said beside the world-renowned beauty of sceneries, Thailand is outstanding for the prominent role of its women in driving the economy with women filling all jobs from workers to entrepreneurs, altering the business models and practices in the country. Ms. Natividad said the upcoming summit in Thailand would be a great platform for participants to share their experiences with a focus on promoting economic equally for women around the world.
Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavarangkul, Former Minister of Tourism and Sports and Chairperson of Toshiba Thailand Co., Ltd., as Host Committee Chair for the summit, said Thailand intends to make this a very special event to honor the 30th anniversary of the GSW and to make it a carbon neutral meeting. It is also an opportunity to showcase unique products from local communities across Thailand, allowing the communities to engage themselves in international activities and raise development to international standards, GSW 2020 will enhance the power of Thai women as they interact and learn from leading women from around the world and will be a crucial platform for all sectors to join hands and for new generations to emerge, for the people of Thailand, of ASEAN and of the world to come together, to revolutionise the economies for a better world.
Mrs. Srisuda Wanapinyosak, Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas at the TAT, said Thailand’s positive image as a preferred destination will be strengthened with the hosting of GSW 2020. The event will showcase the kingdom as a female-friendly destination, spotlighting TAT’s ongoing marketing activities for the tourist segment. Women not only have more purchasing power, but are often the primary decision-makers for destinations, length of stay and budgets. The TAT recognizes the importance of women travellers and has a dedicated policy to promote tourism among this every important customer segment.
Mrs. Nichapa Yoswee, Senior Vice President - Business Development @Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), is support GSW 2020 and would like to welcome 1,000 top executives from all over the world. The support for the event is aligned with the bureau’s policy in using MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition) as a tool to drive professional growth and the country’s economy. The bureau expects the event to generate 80 million baht (2.58 million USD) in revenue and believe that TCEB’s support and the enthusiasm of Thai business sector will make the delegates become aware of Thailand’s potential and the role of Thai businesswomen in propelling development. GSW 2020 will also strengthen Thailand’s image as a leading international conference destination and promote international cooperation.
Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will give a speech at the opening of the Global Summit of Women 2020, which will be joined by women government ministers from various countries in ASEAN, including Cambodia and the Philippines, Africa and South America. Meanwhile, women leaders from Thailand’s leading businesses will be held to bestow leadership awards to individuals who played an outstanding role in promoting women’s role.
The Global Summit of Women is an international forum for women from all sectors, including government agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations, with aims to promote women in business and exceptional national and international portfolios will share their experiences and perspectives on problems and trends which could affect the business sector and the economy as well as management approaches and solutions.
The summit will be held in April 2020 with participation of over 1,000 women leaders from 60 countries around the world. Speakers will include government ministers, international business figures and leaders from other sectors.
